Negev, Israel
The Negev desert can be an endless place. You find yourself wondering about the elemental force of water, sand, and stone. It is a magical and beautiful, yet haunting and sometimes threatening experience. Seeing the sound go down, embracing the nightfall makes you shiver. It takes some nerves to stay overnight. But oh, what a treat.
Of course, Isreal is currently facing much greater challenges. The 10/7 attacks and everything that followed continue to break my heart. While some of my friends in Tel Aviv have been drafted into the army or are seeking shelter somewhere else, others have picked up their cameras and are documenting the destruction of bodies, minds, and hearts, of families and communities, of dreams, hopes, and lives. Tamar Shemesh is one those courageous photographers that I am proud to call my friend.
The snippet title of this post is based on song by Eric Berman (אריק ברמן) . A song that opened my heart while being with wonderful humans in Tel Aviv.
